The Blue Ridge Forest Cooperative (BRFC) provides a full suite of forest landcare services to help landowners and local communities care for their forest and improve its value over time.



BRFC members work to restore the value of their forests through their management activities. In this long-term process, low quality timber is removed and processed into value added products. Flooring, custom millwork, and solid wood paneling, as well as charcoal, toys, and other products offer the potential of relatively high profit margins from what is often considered a waste stream in conventional forest operations.

Landowner objectives vary, but maintaining a functional forest for the long-term is paramount. Working with a professional forester to develop a forest management plan helps landowners more clearly articulate their objectives and how to achieve them. FSC certification ensures excellent quality forests and their ecosystem services in the future.

The key to cost recovery and profitability is adding value to products and marketing them as local, sustainable, and responsible. Products like flooring, trim, and custom millwork are the primary products, however secondary niche and specialty products also generate income. This income is then used by BRFC members to sustain their sustainable forest management and restoration practices.
